MOTOR labor data
Learn how Pista's built-in MOTOR labor integration delivers accurate book times on every job with nothing extra to wire up.
MOTOR labor data
Most shop software treats labor data as a separate subscription you have to buy and bolt on. Pista does not. MOTOR labor data is built in, so the same industry-standard time guide the big estimating systems rely on is already powering every labor line you write. There is no integration to connect and no extra login. This article explains what that gives you and how to make sure each time on the ticket is the right one.
What "Driven by MOTOR" means
When you see the Driven by MOTOR tag on a labor line, that number came from MOTOR's published labor-time database, not from a guess and not from AI. MOTOR builds times from real procedures: how much has to come off, how many fasteners, what it takes to reach the part. That is why two cars that look similar can have very different times for the same job.
You do not connect anything
Because MOTOR is integrated at the platform level, there is nothing to enable.
- Add a vehicle to a repair order.
- Add labor.
- The book hours fill in automatically, tagged Driven by MOTOR.
No API key, no separate account, no monthly add-on to manage. It just works on every ticket from day one.
Get the most accurate time
The accuracy of your labor depends on one thing above all: the decoded vehicle.
- Decode the vehicle by VIN when you add it to the RO.
- Confirm the year, make, model, and engine that come back.
- Add labor and let Pista key the lookup to that exact configuration.
If two trims share a model name but ship different engines, the times differ. Decoding by VIN locks in the engine so the hours you bill match the powertrain on the lift.
Good to know: MOTOR times cover the operation, not the condition of the specific car. A seized bolt or rust-welded hardware is exactly when you override the published hours. Pista lets you adjust any line by hand when reality and the book disagree.
What MOTOR powers beyond labor times
The same MOTOR integration feeds more than the clock.
- Repair procedures and OEM specs so a tech knows the right way to do the job.
- Standard versus warranty times, with standard retail time shown by default for everyday customer-pay work.
- Auto-loaded labor, where adding a common job drops in the correct hours with no searching.
Tips
- Always decode by VIN. It is the single highest-impact habit for accurate labor and clean estimates.
- Trust the tag. When a customer questions an hour, "that is the published MOTOR time for your engine" is a clean, defensible answer.
