Account and Billing

Transferring account ownership

Hand off the Owner role safely when the shop changes hands, a partner buys out, or you bring on a new manager.

Transferring account ownership

Shops change hands. A partner buys out, a manager steps up, or you sell the business and the new owner takes over. When that happens, the Pista account needs to follow the right person, with billing, payouts, and admin control going to whoever is actually running the shop. Doing this cleanly avoids the worst-case scenario: a former owner still holding the keys to your customer data and bank payouts.

Before you start

The Owner is the only role that can manage billing, the subscription, bank payout settings, and other users. Transferring ownership means handing all of that to someone else, so be sure of who is taking over before you begin.

Good to know: Only an existing Owner can transfer ownership. If the current owner is unavailable, contact Pista support with proof of business ownership so the account can be reassigned without losing your history.

Add the new owner as a user

  1. Go to Account, then Users.
  2. Click Invite User and add the incoming owner with the Admin role.
  3. Have them accept the invite and set up their login and two-factor authentication. See Permissions and security.

Promote them to Owner

  1. Open Account, then Users, and click the new person's name.
  2. Change their role to Owner.
  3. Confirm. The account can have the access it needs handed over without anything being deleted.

Update billing and payout details

Ownership is more than a role label. Make sure the money follows too.

  1. In Account, then Billing, update the payment method and billing contact to the new owner. See Updating billing info.
  2. In Shop Settings, then Payments, update the bank account that customer deposits settle into. See Setting up payments for your shop.
  3. Update the legal business name and tax ID under Business Details if the entity changed.

Remove the previous owner

  1. Once the new owner confirms they have full access, go to Account, then Users.
  2. Deactivate the previous owner's account. This preserves their history but ends their login.
  3. Open Account, then Security, Active Sessions, and sign out any device that belonged to them.

Tips

  • Do the handoff in the right order: add and promote the new owner first, confirm they can reach billing and payouts, then deactivate the old one. Never leave the shop with zero active owners.
  • Change the payout bank account on the same day as the role transfer. A new owner with admin rights but the old owner's bank on file is a problem waiting to happen.
  • Selling the business? Pull a final set of reports for your own records before you step away.

Handle it in this order and the new owner walks into a fully working shop while you walk away clean.
